Solution In-Depth

A housing browsing app in a human-centered approach to secure housing with ease

I prototyped interactions with the prototype assuring clear understanding of action.

Prototyping the interactions with animations included helps in my intentions of each function clear.

Clickable Components

I prototyped each interactions by forming components in Figma.

I used AI to create information architecture to consider my strategy for the app.

I used AI to refine the app’s information architecture and generate data-driven personas by analyzing user behavior and preferences. AI streamlined research, identified patterns, and predicted pain points, ensuring a more strategic and user-centered design approach.

Reflection

Based on my first iterative prototype of the user flow and user feedbacks, the final user flow along with the video demo of the app efficiently showcases what students want in a housing app catered towards them.

RESEARCH

By the Numbers

VCU has a total undergraduate
enrollment of
21,205 in Fall 2023

User Interviews: Asking VCU Students What Frustrates Them In Finding Housing

I interviewed 5 local VCU students: a mix of those living on-campus and off-campus to understand their thoughts on housing

01

Top consideration for finding housing were roommates,  location, and amenities

02

Users are informed of housing option from word-of-mouth among friends and colleagues

03

User rely on platforms such as Facebook groups for visual cues

04

The housing decision of users are influenced from people they trust

IDEATE

Concept Ideation

Before designing on Figma, I sketched out concepts that I could start in the user flow of the app.

CONCEPT TESTING

User Feedback of 1st Iterative Flow

I conduct a user feedback session with my VCU peers to their insights and suggestions that need to be made in the 1st iterative user flow. Below is their suggestions that could be incorporated to the final user flow.

Design of the login screen doesn't fit
the standard (Too text and icons)

The standard status bar is going on top of the go back button (Design Breaks!)

Need to add a button before "Book Now" button for the user to go to the application before booking now

Problem

VCU students struggle to find reliable, affordable, and convenient off-campus housing due to fragmented listings, lack of transparency, and overwhelming search processes. The RVA Housing App aims to simplify this experience by providing a centralized, user-friendly platform that streamlines housing searches, offers verified listings, and enhances decision-making through intuitive navigation and essential resources

Goal: Design with a human centered approach for students tofind on-campus, off campus, or both based on their needs and preferences.

Solution: How might we simplify the housing search for VCU students, making it easier to find reliable and affordable off-campus options?
